LOVE YOUR PARENTS
We all know what it means to love our parents. We also know what it means to show respect to our parents, but not everyone knows what it means to honour our precious parents.
Now some think to honour ones parents is only to show respect. Yes, showing respect is part of honour, but it is far beyond just showing respect to ones parents. A parent you honour you would visit irrespective of how busy your schedules are. A parent you honour you would care for. Now it does not matter whether or not your parents are very wealthy, you are not going to take care of them because they are poor, or because they are in need, but because you want to honour them. In fact, we honour our parents because it is a command from God, and because they are our parents and we have to prove our love for them.
How You Can Honour Your Parents
· Give them financial gifts
· Buy them gift items either on their birthdays or during either father’s day or mother’s day. And from time to time, always buy them things to show your love for them. It must not be an expensive gift. The purpose of giving them something is just to ensure that something leaves you to your parents in order for you to receive the parental blessings.
· Visit them from time to time. When parents begin to grow old, in most cases their children have all grown up and are living on their own. So, the parents are either always at home alone or left with the servants. Now it does not matter how well the servants take good care of your parents, your parents would still need your presence to either discuss issues with you or just to have dinner with you.
· Learn to be a good listener when they are talking. Whenever you’re in the presence of your parents try to be patient not to leave their presence in a hurry because sometimes when you want to leave might be when they may want to have a discussion with you. Secondly as your parents begin to grow old, most times they begin to be slow in talking. So, do not hurry them to speak, and do not try to walk out of them while they are still talking else such an attitude might upset them, and could increase their blood pressure. And I’m sure you don’t want that.
If you must succeed as a person, you must learn to love your parents and treat them like they are the best gift God has ever given to you.
Your parents may not have the fear of the Lord, but the instruction from God says
"Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”
As a single person, before you get married you must take the person you want to get married to and show to your parents. That also is a way of showing that you have respect for your parents. And your parents will bless you so things would go well with you in life.
Now some people may say “but my parents have never cared for me, and have never been supportive of whatever I do”. Well, I am sorry about that, but God’s word says we should love our parents and honour them. So, we must all obey. I see God bless you as you obey in Jesus name.
